The scientific and educational laboratory «Physics of nanocomposite materials for electronics», was created in 2005 at the Institute of Physics, Nanotechnology and Telecommunications of Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University. At the laboratory, headed by professors Alexey V. Filimonov and Sergey B. Vakhrushev, research is conducted in the field of physical materials science and development of new nano-structured functional materials with predetermined properties. Among the materials being developed are ferroelectrics and piezoelectrics, multiferroics, ionic conductors, and biological and geological substances.
